Ofcom Consultation Follow up

The GCA continues working to champion the industry, and met again with Ofcom in August 2025 following Ofcom announcing the results of their Consultation .

GCA’s reaction to the July announcement was discussed, with the GCA highlighting that while they were disappointed that 2nd Class letters would now be delivered on alternate weekdays (Monday to Friday), they welcome the new ‘tail of mail’ targets with 99% of 1st class mail having to be delivered within 3 days and  99% of 2nd class mail to be delivered within 5 working days.

Ofcom also noted the concern of GCA members and others on affordability, picking up on points raised by the GCA in the announcement of a further review in 2026. See PGBuzz article

The GCA have also met with the Department of Trade and Industry highlighting the importance to our industry, our High Streets and consumers of a reliable and affordable postal service.

“The GCA will continue to work with Ofcom, Royal Mail and other stakeholders. We want to see Royal Mail thrive and hope the results of this Ofcom Review will allow that to happen. We also look forward to being part of the Royal Mail Stakeholder group, the formation of which is another result of this review”
