New UKCA marking

Feb 23, 2022 | Brexit, Design and Production Support

From 1 January 2023 the new UKCA product marking needs to be used on all products that were previously subject to the CE marking. For greeting cards this is mainly children’s cards with attachments or similar.

Until January 2023 you can still use the CE marking. Stock produced and CE marked before 1 January 2021 can still be sold in Great Britain with a CE marking, but these goods will need to be placed on the market before 31 December 2022.

The circumstances in which you can use self-declaration of conformity are the same for UKCA marking as for CE marking, i.e. if you were able to self-declare conformity for the CE marking, you will be able to do the same for the UKCA marking.

For full details on the changes, when and how to use the marking please see this government guidance.

Please note that the rules are different for new products supplied to Northern Ireland, see Placing Goods on the Market in Northern Ireland.

The UKCA marking is not recognised on the EU market. Appropriate cards will need a CE marking for sale in the EU. Find out how to use the CE marking.
